RCMP December update

Message from Sgt. Tyler WICKWARE of the RCMP

Hello Fraser Heights Residents,

I am writing to provide you with a Winter update on property crime statistics for your neighbourhood. In the time period between October 1, 2021 and December 14, 2021 there have been:

  • 3 Residential Break and Enters; (Compared to 5 in the same period in 2020.)
  • 3 Commercial Break and Enter;  (1 in 2020)
  • 22 Thefts from an Auto; (17 in 2020)
  • 4 Thefts of an Auto; (4 in 2020)
  • 1 Thefts of Bike; (1 in 2020) and
  • 1 Theft of Mail. (2 in 2020)

Of note, the 3 residential break and enters have all occurred in the month of December. It is not clear at this point of they are related in any way. As always, please report all crimes, suspicious persons / vehicles to the non-emergency line, online via our website, or 911 if the situation dictates. With regards to reporting suspicious persons / vehicles, ensure to focus about the behaviour of the individual (ie what is the person doing which causes concern?)

I would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and Merry Christmas. I hope everyone is able to spend some time with family and friends and remains safe with the ongoing pandemic. While partaking in holiday festivities and shopping, just a few reminders to help reduce property crime:

  • If expecting package deliveries, ensure to retrieve the package from your porch, etc as quick as possible; and
  • Do not leave gifts, shopping, or other valuables visible in vehicles.

Lastly, I would like to announce that as of December 31, 2021, I will be moving on from Surrey Detachment for a promotional opportunity at Ridge Meadows Detachment. It is unfortunate that Covid-19 did not allow us to have normal in person community meetings to share ideas and information during my time in the position. A search has already begun for my replacement and I would imagine that the position will be filled shortly. In the meantime, Cpl Ryan Muntener and Cpl Darryl Vanderstoep will be sharing the responsibilities of the job. I will ensure they reach out with an introductory message.

Regards,

Tyler
