On\u00a0Monday March 28<\/span>, the developer at the Highcrest (Coast) property at 9933 Barnston Drive will be submitting a proposal to Surrey Council to reduce the amount of retail \/ commercial space and increase residential density with a 5-story structure. We are recommending the proposal be rejected for the following reasons:<\/p>\n

1. A proposal very similar to this one was rejected by Surrey Council in 2017.
\n2. Another proposal similar to this one was again rejected by the current Surrey Council in\u00a0July 2021<\/span>. There is no material change with this proposal.
\n3. This proposal is deficient in commercial \/ retail and green space and should be serving the needs of residents on the east side of Fraser Heights.
\n4. This proposal contains a 5-storey building with residences, which is completely out of place in Fraser Heights. This would also set a bad precedent for the four apartment buildings slated for the SW quadrant of this developer\u2019s property.
\n5. On-property parking is not properly addressed. Current resident parking on Barnston Drive and 177A St will only become worse.
\n6. This congestion, parking, and lack of services will only become worse when further development on this property will be submitted by this developer \u2013 there is still the potential for 300+ additional residential units to be built at some time in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
